Target management of prioriity substances at catchment scale

International Centre for Coastal Ecohydrology Olhão(Portugal) 17.03.2010

About the workshop:
Priority substances are addressed by the Article 16 of the WFD (2000/60), which is anticipating a progressive reduction of discharges of priority substances. Recently released environmental quality standards (EQS) about PS (Directive 2008/105/EC) will put additional pressure to the member states towards the implementation of the ambitious WFD goals. Within this workshop a comprehensive concept for the management of PS sources, including multiple aspects, sectors, control measures, and tools, will be presented. The concept is based on a comprehensive research conducted within a three years EU funded project ScorePP (http://www.scorepp.eu/), and integrated in a decision support system that enables (1) GIS visualization of PS emissions at catchment scale, (2) identification (quantification) of the emissions in receiving waters, (3) estimating the concentrations of the PS in the receiving waters as a result of the emissions in the catchment, and (4) implementation and evaluation of emission barriers and emission strategies at a catchment scale.

Target Audience:
The workshop is intended for decision makers in the field of water management, and those responsible for the implementation of the WFD. It is also intended for researchers from the field of development of tools for integrated water management.
